New independent report highlights the benefits of Professional Standards Schemes for professionals and consumers

The Professional Standards Councils have released a new independent research report, the Benefits of Professional Standards Schemes, examining the effect of professional standards legislation on strengthening professional practice, improving consumer protection, and enhancing trust in professional services across Australia.

Prepared by the Griffith University Institute for Ethics, Governance and Law, the report draws on interviews with representatives from five occupational associations, alongside experts in insurance, law and risk. The findings show that professional standards schemes continue to play a critical role in lifting standards, reducing risk, and supporting professionals to deliver high quality services.‑quality services.

The report also identifies industry‑wide challenges, including evolving technologies, regulatory change, and shifting insurance market conditions, and outlines how schemes help associations remain agile and responsive in a complex operating environment.

The Councils thank all contributors for sharing their time, insights and expertise to support this important research.
