Value of Contemporary Associations

The report asks ‘What is the value of professional associations to the good that professions do?’

Overview

Author(s): Dr Justine Rogers and Deborah Hartstein UNSW Law

Governments have a clear interest in answers to these questions. The interest of governments is in the work of professional associations that directly and indirectly protects consumers of professional services and supports the advancement of that profession as a whole. The Report details the multiple roles of professional associations, in service of their four stakeholders: the state, the public, the profession, and the members. The Report uses an adapted model of associational excellence, which associations can use to assess their own activities. The findings are organised to assess whether associations perform - or are capable of performing - their regulatory functions to the standard of a highly performing regulatory body.
